Sara Yorke Stevenson, an American archaeologist, born in Paris, France. She came to America in 1862, and in 1870 was married to Cornelius Stevenson. The degree of Sc.D. was awarded to her by the University of Pennsylvania, the first degree ever conferred on a woman by that institution.
In 1898 she was sent to Egypt for the American Exploration Society, to make investigations in connection with archaeological work in Nile valley.
Her books are: Maximilian in Mexico, and The Book of the Dead.
