Sallie R. Wagner, née Sarah Roberts Wagner, was born on June 7, 1913, in Wheeling, West Virginia. She was a photographer, author, weaver, and a benefactor and patron of dancer-choreographer Erick Hawkins and his dance company.
Through Hawkins, she met the dancer and choreographer Martha Graham (1894-1991), who was married to Hawkins until 1954, as well as Lucia Dlugoszewski (1925-2000), who was Hawkins’s music composer, collaborator, and later his wife.
Wagner, who was married to William J. Lippincott (1913-1994), spent most of her adult life in the western United States, living in Wide Ruins, Arizona; Williams, Oregon; and Santa Fe, New Mexico. Wagner died August 30, 2006.
