Colombian writer Melba Escobar writes a column for the Colombian newspapers El Espectador and El País. Her novel “House of Beauty” (Fourth Estate) was chosen as one of the best books of 2016 by the Colombian National Novel Prize. It takes place in and around a beauty salon, and it deals with issues of issues of gender, class and race, where a woman’s worth is often tied to her beauty. Escobar will join writer Liliana Colanzi on the International Stage for a conversation on South American fiction.
