Mary Shaw, an American actress, lecturer and woman suffrage leader. Her dramatic talent early attracted the attention of Madame Modjeska with whom she play for sever seasons, and where she attained distinction by the power and intelligence of acting.
She soon became recognized as one of the leading emotional actresses of her time, and from 1890 – 1910 appeared in many notable New York productions. Miss Shaw was one of the first actresses to present Ibsen on the American stage, when she first created a profound impression by her impersonation of Mrs. Alving in Ghosts.
In recent years she has given much of her time to the cause of woman suffrage, and by her brilliant lectures throughout the country for the progress and political liberty of women.
