Mary Howitt, an English Author. She was the daughter of a Quaker in Staffordshire, and in 1821 married the writer William Howitt.
During their marriage, extending over a period of fifty-eight years, they wrote many works in collaboration, and are remembered for their untiring efforts to provide wholesome and instructive literature.
Mrs. Howitt alone wrote many poems, hymns, and ballads, some novels and books for the young.
She also made translations from Frederika Bremer and Hans Anderson, and her independent publications number 110 distinct works.
