Marjorie Johnson (1915–2011), a trailblazer in funeral services, led J.B. Johnson Funeral Home, earning accolades for her dedication to community and faith.
Marjorie Johnson (1915- 2011), born in Chinquapin, NC, relocated to Boston when she was in her teens. Following her religious denomination, she joined Concord Baptist Church in Boston’s South End, where she continued to be an exemplary worker at the church for many years right up until her death in 2011. She married James Benjamin Johnson of J.B. Johnson Funeral Home, which was located on Shawmut Avenue and acquired her license in the funeral service industry as well. After the passing of her husband, Johnson assumed ownership/management of J.B. Johnson Funeral Home. Years later in order to accommodate the growth of her business, Mrs. Johnson relocated the business from Boston’s South End to its current location at 196 Warren Street in Roxbury. Her benevolence to her church, this community and the funeral industry earned her many awards and citations including the Martin Luther King Jr. Drum Major for Righteousness Award.
