Magdalena Dobromila Rettigová was a Czech writer renowned for her famous cookery book. Her early literary works had a sentimental tone. In 1826, she published Domácí kuchařka; Pojednání o masitých a postních pokrmech pro dcerky České a Moravské (“A Household Cookery Book” – see the second slide), the 19th-century Czech bestseller and the sole Czech-language cookery book for some time. Rettigová actively participated in the Czech National Revival movement, promoting girls’ education and marital happiness. She passed away in 1845 in Litomyšl.
