Helen Battles Sawyer Hogg was an American-Canadian astronomer who pioneered research on globular clusters and variable stars. She became the first female president of several astronomical organizations and faced challenges as a scientist when many universities denied scientific degrees to women. Helen advocated for astronomy and women in science through columns in the Toronto Star and the Journal of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada. Her impactful career spanned over sixty years, and she was remembered as both a great scientist and a gracious person.
