From Famous Women: An Outline of Feminine Achievement Through the Ages With Life Stories of Five Hundred Noted Women. Written by Joseph Adelman, published 1926 by Ellis M Lonow Company:
Fanny Corbaux, an English artist. When she was about fifteen years of age her father suddenly became reduced to poverty, and without having received any but the more superficial drawing instructions, she determined to support herself and him by painting.
Though all the time her own instructor, within three years she won the gold medal of the Society of Arts. She painted many small pictures in oil and water colors, but confined herself chiefly to portraits.
Miss Corbaux was one of the first to assert the right of women to obtain admission as students to the Royal Academy. She was also distinguished as a Biblical scholar, and wrote a valuable series of letters on The Physical Geography of the Exodus.
