Fanny Bullock Workman, an American mountain-climber and explorer, born at Worcester, Mass. In 1881 she was married to W. Hunter Workman, an alpinist, whom she accompanied on extensive travels in North Africa, Asia Minor and the Far East.
She has made record first-ascents for women in the Himalaya, and her first ascent of one of the Nun Kun peaks to the height of 23,300 feet in 1906 gave her the world record for mountaineering for women.
Mrs. Workman became a fellow of the Royal Geographical Society, lectured before learned companies and alpine clubs, and received various decorations.
In collaboration with her husband, she wrote: Algerian Memories, In the Ice-World of Himalaya, and Peaks and Glaciers of Nun Kun.
