Esphyr Slobodkina was a leader of the abstract movement in the United States, committed to showing the world as she saw it: geometrically, dimensionally realized, ever-moving, and nonlinear. In addition to her abstract paintings, murals, assemblages, and twenty-four children’s books, she designed couture clothing, made jewelry, and sometimes even designed buildings.
