Cecilia Oba Tito was a prominent community leader in Yei, South Sudan. She was born in 1974 in Morsak Village, Yei, as a member of the Kakwa ethnic group. Her notable educational journey included attending Kagelu Primary School from 1981 to 1987 and Yei Girl’s Secondary School from 1987 to 1991. Despite facing challenges due to conflict, she pursued further studies in Uganda at Nyangilia Secondary School. In 1994, she dedicated herself to community development and served as a counselor for Central Equatoria State.
Tito’s commitment to public service continued, and she became a respected member of the National Assembly of Sudan. Her leadership qualities were evident when she assumed the role of the Speaker of the National Assembly in South Sudan from 2013 to September 2014. Unfortunately, her life was tragically cut short when she was murdered in Jebel on November 9, 2014, at the age of 40.
Her legacy is marked by her dedication to empowering women and contributing to community development. Tito was a Christian and actively supported initiatives for women’s welfare.
