The following is excerpted from “400 Outstanding Women of the World and the Costumology of Their Time” by Minna Moscherosch Schmidt, published in 1933.
Anna C. Maxwell, Senior Superintendent of Nurses in the United States, organizer of the St. Luke’s and Presbyterian schools in New York City, was at the head of the latter for some twenty years. Well known and justly famed for her perfection of standard and method in training, she was even more exemplary in the generous wealth of helpfulness toward the individuals who came within her radius. Miss Maxwell was trained at the New England Hospital for Women and Children.
In collaboration with Miss Amy Pope, one of her assistants, she wrote a standard textbook on nursing.
