Alice Wheatley undertook nursing training at the Fremantle Hospital, Western Australia and the Queen Victoria Hospital, Victoria. She was awarded the ARRC in 1944 for her work in charge of the first nursing party of RAAF nurses in New Guinea. In 1951 Wheatley was appointed as an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in recognition of her work in the RAAF Nursing Service.
