American poet, journalist, and writer of juvenile stories, born in Dudley, Mass. She was for several years the Boston correspondent of The Chicago Tribune, and later confined her writing to stories for girls in which field she was particularly successful, her books of this description being marked by lively and attractive character study. Among her poems are many graceful lyrics, one of the most popular being Tying her Bonnet Under her Chin.
