Anastasia Golovina was Bulgaria’s first woman doctor, earning her doctorate from the Sorbonne in 1878. Her doctoral thesis “Histological examination of the walls of the arteries” earned the admiration of the neurologist and anatomical pathologist Jean Charcot. She was also the first Bulgarian woman to graduate from a university.
She worked in hospitals and schools, specialising in internal diseases and psychiatry psychiatrist. In her private life, she was part of the progressive, revolutionary circles in Bulgaria and Russia in the middle of the 1870s, according to Bulgarian and Soviet archives.
