Violeta Dinescu (born in Bucharest, 13 July 1953) is a Romanian composer, pianist, and professor. After studying composition at the Ciprian Porumbescu Music Conservatory in Bucharest and specializing with Miriam Marbe (1977-1978), she taught at the George Enescu School of Music (1978-1982). In 1982 she received a grant to study in the Federal Republic of Germany and settled there. She taught at the Hochschule für Evangelische Kirchenmusik in Heidelberg (1987-1990), at the Hochschule für Musik Frankfurt/Main (1989-1991), and at the Fachakademie für Evangelische Kirchenmusik Bayreuth (1990-1996), and since 1996 she has been professor of applied composition at Oldenburg University. Her works have been performed worldwide and she has been awarded many commissions and prizes. She has lectured in Europe, South Africa, and the United States.
