Bicsech (6th cent.?), foundress of Kilbixy, probably belonged to a Leinster lineage, although her genealogy does not survive. It was at the convent of Bicsech, the Latin Life of Fintan (Munnu) claims, that the saint of Taghmon miraculously restored a dead man to life. Her principal foundation of Cell Bicsigi was located in Mide; townland and parish of Kilbixy, Co. Westmeath. The cult of Bicsech was certainly established in Leinster; she was associated with another site called Cell Bicsigi (townland of Shelton Abbey, parish of Kilbride) in Co. Wicklow, which had links with the Uí Báethallaigh, an ecclesiastical family of Leinster origin (Rawl. B 502, 118b; LL, 311c 52). Bicsech may also be associated with Imliuch na Lega (parish of Lea) in Co. Laois (LL, 353b 43).
